You've taken the vacation.
This is the trip.
Small-group travel for people who want to expand their lives, not escape them.
“I’m starting a new chapter.”
Maybe it’s a divorce. A career change. A birthday with a zero in it. Whatever cracked your life open also cleared a space, and you get to decide what goes there. Maybe a trip to Morocco?
Do any of these sound familiar?
Your friends have said, “we should travel more” for three straight years, and nothing happens. Meanwhile, you’ve got a passport, and you’re tired of waiting.
“I want to travel, but I can’t find anyone to commit to a trip.”
“I’m done with resort vacations.”
The buffet was fine. The pool was fine. Everything was fine, but you came home unable to name one truly fun moment. We get it—that’s why we started this whole thing.
What is Type 2 Fun?
There are two different kinds of fun. Type 1 fun is fun while it’s happening. Beach chair, toes in the sand, a strong drink. We all need these kinds of trips (even if we forget most of what happened a few months later).
Type 2 fun is the kind that’s a little uncomfortable while it’s happening, but it becomes a story you’ll talk about forever.
It’s the safari rig that gets stuck in the mud, the hike you cursed through and can’t stop talking about, the awkward dinner in a stranger’s home that made an entire country make sense.
We built a travel company around the second kind. Because when you look back at your life, you’re not going to remember the most comfortable parts.
You’re going to remember the time you peed your pants running to your airport gate with 40 pounds of Greek pottery in your backpack.
Here’s how Type 2 Travel works:
Pick your trip.
We’ve got select destinations and departures, so read the itinerary, check the vibe, and trust your gut.
Claim your spot.
A deposit holds your spot, and payment plans exist. Every trip includes a choice of shared or private room.
Show up.
That’s it. We’ll handle everything else between the airport and the goodbye hugs.
You have questions? Good.
You should. You’re considering showing up in another country with people you’ve never met. Here are the ones everyone asks, and some are thinking but don’t say out loud:
-
Perfect — so does our founder, Laura. She’s severely ADHD, and her villain origin story is standing in the hot sun while a guide with a microphone recited 200 years of history about a wall. Somewhere around minute forty, this company was born.
We build trips for people who'd rather do the thing than hear about it. You'll stomp the grapes, cook the dinner, and get the history at somebody's kitchen table — from the person who lived it.
Small groups, places off the beaten path, and room to wander built in on purpose.
When you travel with us, you come home with stories, not a lecture.
-
Our groups are as diverse as the places we visit! We attract all sorts of travelers – from quiet observers to social butterflies – united by a love for new experiences and cultures. The only real requirements are an open mind and a willingness to try new things (and maybe a tolerance for the occasional cheesy travel joke). By the end of the trip, don't be surprised if you've made some lifelong friends.
-
Good — you'll be in the majority. Over half of our travelers show up solo, and most of them were nervous about it too. By the second day, you'll wonder why you almost talked yourself out of it.
For rooms, you've got options: we can match you with a roommate (you'll get a questionnaire so it's not random — we're not monsters), or you can grab a private room for an additional fee if you need your own space to recharge. Either way works, and you can decide when you book.
Here's what we've seen over and over: the people who come alone are the ones who connect the fastest. No buddy system to hide behind, no defaulting to the person you already know. You just... become part of the group. It happens every single time.
-
Let's be real: can we predict the future or promise that nothing will ever go sideways when you travel?
No. But you can't promise that at home either — “safe” is a relative term.
What we can promise is that we do the work upfront. We vet every destination, every hotel, every route before a trip goes on sale. We work with local guides who know their cities the way you know your commute, and we build relationships with on-the-ground partners years before we bring a group through.
During the trip, you're never navigating a foreign city alone at midnight trying to figure out which cab is legit. We handle the logistics, the local knowledge, and the "what do we do if" scenarios so you don't have to. And if something unexpected comes up — a flight gets canceled, someone gets sick, a plan needs to change — we're right there with you, not at a call center in another time zone.
Could you Google "is [country] safe for travelers" and spiral for three hours? Sure. Or you could trust that we've already done that homework — and then some.
Upcoming Small Group Trips
So, where to next? Here’s what we’ve got coming up:
georgia
Georgia
October 2-11, 2026
Stomp grapes a la I Love Lucy, soak in sulfur baths, and get fed at a supra by a country whose hospitality can only be described as “aggressive love.” Oh, and there’s a lot of wine.
colombia
Colombia
January 30-February 6, 2027
Paraglide over Medellín, climb Peñol Rock, and learn to salsa and tango like a pro. This is a city that’s come back swinging, and we can’t wait to share it with you.
egypt
Egypt
April 30-May 9, 2027
Sail the Nile, wander the Valley of the Kings, and snorkel the Red Sea. You’ll realize over a Bedouin dinner that while the Pyramids are cool, this country offers SO much more.
How We Travel
For every trip we lead, we have the same five promises:
They’re small. 10-14 people, max. Big enough to be a crew, small enough for the places the big groups don't get to go. Think family-run guesthouses, tiny tavernas, and kitchens that could never seat a bus.
They’re local. That means locally-owned hotels, family-run restaurants, and local guides who grew up in these places. Your money stays where you spent it, with fair pay for every guide, driver, and partner.
They’re planned for you. And by that, we mean obsessively scouted, personally vetted, and meticulously planned. All you have to do is say “yes” and show up. We handle everything else.
They’re women-led. We actively seek out women-owned businesses, female guides, and women trip leaders whenever we can. Everyone is welcome, but women are centered.
They’re transformational. For you and the places you’re visiting. Most trips have a “give-back” component: a chance to donate time or resources that’s actually led by locals.
Meet Laura
Our Founder
I started this company to get away from my life. Now I run it because it keeps making my life bigger, and I come home a little more like myself every time.
That’s what happens to my travelers, too.
Five years ago, I was escaping. It was the thick of the pandemic. My marriage had already ended, and the relationship after it had just imploded. I'd outgrown my job. I was living a life that didn't quite fit.
Travel was my exit door. So I built a business around helping other people find theirs.
And because I'm allergic to being lectured at in the hot sun, I built it my way. Trips where you actually do things instead of just hearing about them. Trips that hand you stories.
That’s why Type 2 Travel™ exists.
Because the best trip isn’t an escape from your life—it’s an expansion of it.
Your passport's a little too empty, and your best stories deserve some competition.
Let's fix both.
A year from now, when the group chat is blowing up with inside jokes and reunion plans, you’ll realize traveling with us was one of the best decisions you’ve ever made.
