FAQs
-
Our groups are as diverse as the places we visit! We attract all sorts of travelers – from quiet observers to social butterflies – united by a love for new experiences and cultures. The only real requirements are an open mind and a willingness to try new things (and maybe a tolerance for the occasional cheesy travel joke). By the end of the trip, don't be surprised if you've made some lifelong friends.
-
Not at all. We run both women-only and co-ed trips — and we love having all genders along. Each trip page will tell you which one it is, so you'll always know before you book. The vibe is the same either way: a small group of people who actually want to be there, ready to eat well, explore hard, and skip the tourist traps.
-
Good — you'll be in the majority. Over half of our travelers show up solo, and most of them were nervous about it too. By the second day, you'll wonder why you almost talked yourself out of it.
For rooms, you've got options: we can match you with a roommate (you'll get a questionnaire so it's not random — we're not monsters), or you can grab a private room for an additional fee if you need your own space to recharge. Either way works, and you can decide when you book.
Here's what we've seen over and over: the people who come alone are the ones who connect the fastest. No buddy system to hide behind, no defaulting to the person you already know. You just... become part of the group. It happens every single time.
-
Not at all! Whether this is your first trip abroad or you’re a seasoned traveler, you’ll feel right at home. Our trip leaders and local guides are here to guide you through everything, so you can relax and enjoy the journey. We take care of the logistics, and our trips are designed for all experience levels—no passport stamp collection required.
-
Let's be real: can we predict the future or promise that nothing will ever go sideways? No. But you can't promise that at home either — “safe” is a relative term.
What we can promise is that we do the work upfront. We vet every destination, every hotel, every route before a trip goes on sale. We work with local guides who know their cities the way you know your commute, and we build relationships with on-the-ground partners years before we bring a group through.
During the trip, you're never navigating a foreign city alone at midnight trying to figure out which cab is legit. We handle the logistics, the local knowledge, and the "what do we do if" scenarios so you don't have to. And if something unexpected comes up — a flight gets canceled, someone gets sick, a plan needs to change — we're right there with you, not at a call center in another time zone.
Could you Google "is [country] safe for travelers" and spiral for three hours? Sure. Or you could trust that we've already done that homework — and then some.
-
Short answer: almost everything. Accommodations, most meals, guided activities, local transportation — it's all baked in.
You'll know exactly what's covered before you book, so your wallet isn't playing a guessing game the whole trip. The only extras are a few meals on your own (which, let's be real, is just an excuse to wander into whatever smells amazing), personal shopping, and optional tips for guides and drivers. We'll break it all down for you before we go — it's literally our job.And the experiences? They're not tacked-on tourist stops. We're talking cooking classes with local chefs, cultural tours you won't find on a Google search, sunrise hot air balloon rides, sunset camel treks — the stuff that makes you grab the person next to you and say "is this real?"
-
Nope — and that's on purpose. Everyone's flying from different cities, using different points, wanting different layover situations. So we leave that part to you.
But we make it easy. Every trip page has a flight browser at the bottom with exactly where to fly in and out of, so there's no guessing. We handle airport pickup when you land and drop-off when you leave — all you have to do is get yourself to the right airport on the right day.
Still not sure? We can review your flight options before you book, or book them for you for a small fee. Just ask.
-
We get it — these trips are an investment, and we want to make it as easy as possible to say yes.
Every trip comes with a payment plan: put down a deposit to lock in your spot, then pay the rest in installments before we leave. No weird fine print, no lump sum panic. And if you'd rather rip the Band-Aid off and pay in full upfront, we'll often give you a discount for it.
You focus on picking which outfits to pack. We'll handle the rest.
-
You absolutely could. And if you love spending your vacation time buried in Google Translate at midnight, cross-referencing hotel reviews, and hoping the "charming local restaurant" isn't a parking lot — go for it. We're not here to talk you out of independence.
But here's what we've watched happen a hundred times: even when you travel with friends, somebody is doing the planning. Somebody is the group chat manager, the reservation maker, the one Googling "is this neighborhood safe at night.” That person doesn't get a vacation — they get a project with a boarding pass.
With us, you just show up. That's it. We've already found the places Google doesn't know about — dinner in a local's home, a sunrise only the guides know how to get to, the rooftop nobody posts because they want to keep it. You get a built-in crew of people who actually want to be at the table (no eating alone unless you want to), a team handling every detail behind the scenes, and a safety net when plans shift — because they always do.
You book your flight. We’ll handle everything else.
-
Life happens — we get it. Here's how we handle it:
We require post-departure travel insurance on every trip, full stop — that's coverage from the day you leave to the day you get home. It's non-negotiable because we've seen what happens without it, and we'd rather you never find out.
Beyond that, you can add on trip cancellation coverage, trip interruption benefits, or a "cancel for any reason" option — because sometimes the curveball isn't an emergency, it's just... life throwing a wrench.
Here's a good gut check: could you absorb the full cost of this trip if something came up last minute? If that question made your stomach flip, the add-ons are worth every penny.
We partner with Wanderwell for all things travel insurance — they're the pros, and they'll walk you through exactly what makes sense for your trip.
-
Small. We generally cap our trips at 10–14 travelers — big enough that you'll have options for who to sit next to at dinner, small enough that we can actually get a table. That size lets us do things a bigger group simply can't: a private cooking class instead of a crowded demo, a local's living room instead of a tourist-heavy restaurant, the kind of access that disappears the second you show up with 40 people and a lanyard.
You'll know everyone's name by day two. That's the whole point.
-
Every trip has a mix of planned activities and free time, and we're intentional about the balance — enough structure that you're not wandering aimlessly, enough breathing room that it actually feels like vacation.
A typical day might look like: a morning activity or cultural experience, lunch together (or on your own if you need a minute), an afternoon to explore, shop, nap, or do absolutely nothing — and then dinner at a spot we've already scouted. Some days are fuller than others, and we'll always tell you what's coming so you can pace yourself.
The goal is that you go to bed thinking "I can't believe that was one day" — not "I need a vacation from this vacation."
-
We highly encourage it. If you want to arrive a few days early or stick around after the group wraps up, do it — you're already there. We can help plan an extension for you, or point you toward what's worth seeing on your own.
Ask us about extension options when you book.
-
We build trips to be enjoyed, not survived — nobody's signing up for a forced march through cobblestones at 6 a.m. (we would never). That said, every trip has its own rhythm. Greece is long lunches, slow sunsets, and exactly the kind of pace where you forget what day it is. Morocco is more of a vibrant whirlwind — medinas, mountains, new cities every couple of days — and you'll feel every bit of it (in the best way). Trips like India and Georgia have us moving more, soaking up a lot of ground, while others give you room to linger and let the place come to you.
If a trip is going to push your comfort zone — even a little — we'll tell you upfront, well before you book. And for the planners who want every detail before they commit (we see you), it's all on the trip page.
-
Our trips are adults-only — 18 and up, no exceptions. This is your time (and everyone else’s too).
If you're wondering whether you can really be away from the kids, the pets, the partner, the plants that are definitely going to die while you're gone — yes. You can. They'll survive, and you'll come back a better version of yourself for it. That's not a justification — it's just what happens when you actually take the trip instead of thinking about it for another year.
-
Once you land, you're off the clock. We arrange all local transportation for scheduled activities — buses, private drivers, boats, camels—whatever the trip calls for.
Airport transfers are included on most trips, and we'll tell you exactly what's covered before you go so there's no awkward moment at arrivals wondering if you should grab a cab.
All you have to do is show up at baggage claim. We'll take it from there.
-
Just let us know before the trip. We work with our local partners to accommodate dietary needs — vegetarian, gluten-free, common allergies — so you're not stuck eating plain rice while everyone else is having the meal of their life.
If you have more specific restrictions — severe allergies, vegan traveling to a remote destination, anything beyond the usual — reach out to us directly so we can talk through what's realistic for that particular trip. Some locations are easier than others, and we'd rather be upfront about that than overpromise.
-
A valid passport with at least six months before it expires — that part is non-negotiable, and you'd be surprised how many people don't check until it's too late. Some destinations also require a visa or proof of vaccinations, and we'll give you the full rundown well before your trip so nothing catches you off guard.
And please, pack your passport. We say this from experience. (Ask us how we know.)
-
We'll send you a detailed packing list before every trip — what to bring, what to leave behind, and what you'll thank us for later. We're talking comfy walking shoes, weather-appropriate layers, and any destination-specific must-haves (some places have dress codes for temples or mosques, and we'll make sure you know before you're standing at the entrance).
We've collectively hauled luggage through enough airports, train stations, sailboats and cobblestone streets to know exactly what's worth the suitcase space and what isn't. Less is more. Trust us on this one.

We know you're not actually unplugging — you've got a dog sitter to check on, a group chat that needs your live updates, and a camera roll that's going to need cloud storage by day three. We get it.
Most of our accommodations have WiFi, and we'll let you know ahead of time what connectivity looks like for each destination. Some places are seamless, others are more spotty, and a few have no signal (oh hey Sahara Desert! 👋🏻).
We'll be upfront about what to expect so you can plan accordingly. If staying connected is important to you, we also recommend grabbing an eSIM, and we'll include those details in your pre-trip info. You won't be off the grid. But you might want to be by day four.
-
We love hearing from you — seriously. Email us at info@type2travel.com and a real human will get back to you. No chatbots, no ticket numbers, no "we'll get back to you in 3–5 business days" runaround. If you need to talk it through before you book, we're here for that too.
